LESSON FEES
PRIVATE LESSONS
Rates for Summer Lessons are on this page.
Rates for private lessons are: *September to May
- 30-minute lesson - $41
- 45-minute lesson - $54
- 60-minute lesson - $70
For families with more than one person taking lessons, fees will be calculated at $70/hour. For example, if two people have 30-minute lessons back-to-back, the fee for the day will be $70, not $82.
GROUP LESSONS
Rates for group lessons are:
- 30-minute lesson - $26/student
- 45-minute lesson - $33/student
- 60-minute lesson - $43/student
MILEAGE FEE
The lesson fee includes travel to your home within Camrose city limits. If you live outside of Camrose, there will be an additional mileage fee of 68¢ per kilometre each way from the Camrose city limit (based on the CRA automobile allowance rates for 2023).
MATERIAL FEE
It is the responsibility of the student/parent to purchase materials (instruments, books, accessories). I am happy to make recommendations, and in the case of method/lesson books and sheet music, I will often ask you to buy very specific items. Musicnotes.com is a convenient resource for finding music online. Martha’s Music on Main Street in Camrose has the standard items one might need, and Long & McQuade in Edmonton has a wide selection of instruments and print music. All students should have access to a quality instrument and a metronome. I will provide a custom coil-bound lesson planner notebook for students to use, which is where I will write notes each week. The price of each notebook is $15 (to cover printing and binding costs). Please have a binder to keep handouts and sheet music organized.
REGISTRATION FEE
To reserve a lesson time for the fall and spring terms (September–May) there is a non-refundable annual fee of $40 per student. For current students, this fee, along with a request for a lesson day/time, is due by June 25. Any remaining times in my schedule will be offered to new students as of July 1. Every student taking lessons between September and May is required to pay this annual fee. Summer lessons are exempt.
The registration fee helps to cover all sorts of incidental costs (for example, filming and producing recital videos, hiring guest musicians for live recitals, purchasing music games and apps to use in lessons, purchasing music books for my lending library, purchasing equipment for use in online lessons, as well as an indication of your commitment to a particular lesson time).

LESSON PLANNER NOTEBOOK
I have a custom coil-bound lesson planner notebook that will serve as each student’s weekly communication home. Here you can check what we have covered in lessons, practice guidelines for the week, and upcoming events. The notebook also has many reference pages that I encourage you to use throughout the year.
-policies
-practice tips
-monthly payment chart
-scheduling/holidays
-blank pages for weekly notes
-manuscript paper (various types)
-music theory reference materials
-materials specific to piano, guitar, ukulele, and theory instruction

PAYMENTS
I accept cash, cheques (made out to 'Erik Olson'), or online payments (e-transfer to [email protected]).
*please note the middle initials in my email address when sending online payments
Payments are due the first lesson of each month for the number of lessons in that month. One lump-sum payment or post-dated cheques for the entire term are preferred. All lessons require payment, including known absences which will be dealt with as outlined in the make-up lesson policy. For those paying monthly, you will receive an invoice by email on the first day of each month.

TAX CREDIT
In past years, the Canada Revenue Agency has given a tax incentive for children to take music lessons. This was discontinued in 2017. However, if you would like a receipt of fees paid for your own record-keeping, I would be happy to provide that documentation at any time.
