MUSIC LESSONS
*Important update: I am going back to school starting in September 2024 to begin a Master of Music (Piano) degree at the University of Alberta. As a result, I will not be teaching at all from September until December 2024. It is possible that I will have time to resume lessons with a small number of students beginning in January 2025. Priority will be given to current students.
Summer lessons are available from June-August 2024. Please see details here.

I am always accepting new students, subject to open spots in my schedule. Please fill out this form if you are interested in taking lessons.
Lessons are divided into three 'terms':
-Fall Term (September-December)
-Spring Term (January-May)
-Summer Term (June-August)
I live in Camrose, AB, and in most cases, I will travel to your home for lessons. On Monday evenings, however, I teach through the Augustana Conservatory at Augustana Faculty, UofA. Online lessons (FaceTime or Zoom) are also an option.
I can teach the following instruments/subjects:
- piano (jazz/classical/contemporary, etc.)
- guitar
- bass guitar
- ukulele
- baritone/euphonium
- trumpet
- musical saw
- recorder
- music theory
I welcome all students, ages 5 and older. It is never too late to start or return to making music! I have had students in their 60s and 70s, and it can be a very fun and rewarding experience to make music at any age.
While most of the lessons I teach are private lessons, group lessons are also an option. If you have a few friends and would like to learn together, please contact me to discuss the possibilities. Read about special group rates on the Fees and Payments page.

PRACTICE AND PERFORMANCE
To make the most of the music-learning experience, it is important to make time for regular, daily practice. Practice time should be intentional and productive -- quality is more important than quantity. For young students, encouragement from parents may make the difference between a passing enthusiasm and years of productive study. The ultimate goal, I believe, is to foster a life-long appreciation for music. I always write notes, assignments, etc. in the lesson book. I expect that students and parents will read these notes each week.
As a general guideline, I expect students with:
Keep practice sessions limited to a duration that allows you to stay focused (i.e. break it up if need be).
There will be performance opportunities throughout the year for those students who are interested. One such opportunity is the Camrose and District Music Festival, which will takes place each year in April.
As a general guideline, I expect students with:
- 30-minute lessons to practice daily for at least 15 minutes
- 45-minute lessons to practice daily for at least 20 minutes
- 60-minute lessons to practice daily for at least 30-40 minutes
